Budget Highlights for Long Island

Long Island Region

Total NYS School Aid to Long Island school districts will increase from $2.38 billion in 2007-08 to $2.5 billion in 2008-09, an increase of $118.5 million or 5.0%.

Total STAR property tax relief to Long Island region residents will increase from $1.04 billion in 2007-08 to $1.08 billion in 2008-09, an increase of $38.9 million or 3.7%.

Total Aid and Incentives for Municipalities (AIM) funding for Long Island region residents will increase by $873,640 or 3.1% to $28.5 million in 2008-09.

A total of $28.47 million for capital improvements at parks and historic sites throughout Long Island.

Nassau County

Total NYS School Aid to Nassau County school districts will increase from $787.0 million in 2007-08 to $832.3 million in 2008-09, an increase of $45.2 million or 5.75%.

Total STAR property tax relief to Nassau County residents will increase from $505.7 million in 2007-08 to $524.7 in 2008-09, an increase of $19.0 million or 3.6%.

Total Aid and Incentives for Municipalities (AIM) funding for Nassau County residents will increase by $618,074 or 3.2% to $19.7 million in 2008-09.

Total savings for Nassau County for the Medicaid Cap and State takeover of Family Health Plus will total $45.8 million in 2008-09.

$150,000 for capital improvements at Planting Fields State Historic Park.

$6.45 million for capital improvements at Jones Beach State Park.

Suffolk County

Total NYS School Aid to Suffolk County school districts will increase from $1.6 billion in 2007-08 to $1.67 billion in 2008-09, an increase of $73.2 million or 4.59%.

Total STAR property tax relief to Suffolk County residents will increase from $539.4 million in 2007-08 to $559.4 million in 2008-09, an increase of $20.0 million or 3.6%.

Total Aid and Incentives for Municipalities (AIM) funding for Suffolk County residents will increase by $255,565 or 3.0% to $8.7 million in 2008-09.

Total savings for Suffolk County for the Medicaid Cap and State takeover of Family Health Plus will total $44.8 million in 2008-09.

$1.25 million for capital improvements at Caumsett State Historic Park.

$149,230 for capital improvements at Cold Spring Harbor State Park.

$925,000 for capital improvements at Heckscher State Park.
